View Full Version : Concept behind "11 Dreams"
The Fiddler
03 September 2004, 17:06
I just received the CD in the mail today and it is heavy (musically and lyrically) as hell. Ironically, I put the disc in for the first spin right after listening to George Bush's Republican National Convention speech about freedom being God's gift to everyone in the world and that he (Bush) will continue his crusade to make the world a more peaceful place. To me, those are all code words for, "I plan to bomb the devil out of more middle east countries if elected to another 4 years". Something I totally oppose (although I 100% supported going after the Bin Laden network in Afganastan which was and is an immenent threat, much unlike Iraq).
You can't impose freedom on a people, as noble as it sounds. Oppressed people who yearn to be free must be willing to die for their freedom. They can't expect some other country to do it for them. If a people truly desire to be free, they will make the sacrifices to make themselves free. If they are afraid to sacrifice, then they will never be free.
Until I heard the lyrics, I had no idea that much of the CD is focused on and before the events of September 11. Usually the lyrical content is something I don't pay much attention to, but halfway through the title track, "11 Dreams", I had to stop what I was doing and read the lyrics from cover to cover. I don't totally understand the concept after just one read, but it appears written in the mind of a terrorist who is bred to hate, a hate that he often regrets, but can't control.
So my questions to the band:
1) Is this a conceptual CD from begining to end, or is there just a common theme that runs among the songs.
2) Is there a two-person dialog happening during certain songs?
3) What is the viewpoint of the main character in the songs and how did he arrive at it? Obviously is it rooted in 9/11 and terrorisim (or so I think), but I don't want to assume anything.
4) Who or what has been asleep for 7 years?
5) What do the 11 dreams represent and how did you come up with the name for that track?
If there has been an on-line interview posted that explains all the above questions, please refer me to it so you don't need to repeat all your answers.
The lyrical content of the CD is mysterious and has really got my interest. Very, very rarely can lyrics captivate me as much as those on "11 Dreams". Awesome work guys!!!

Hi Fiddler and the rest of you, i will try to explain the main theme of the album, also it has a lot of hidden themes and stuff, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, as itīs my girlfriends birthday today. So iīm a bit hung up at the moment. have patience for another 30 hours, and i will do my best to describe things. And i really appreciate that you are so interested in the lyrical side of the album also :-)

Take your time. No rush. Listening to the CD is keeping me plenty busy - not to mention two full-time jobs. I just love music like this that gives me the extra adrenaline and passion to get me through those chaotic days, weeks, and events that we all have to put up at times.

Hi, iīm very honoured that you guys dig the lyrics, but i thik i will let you fry for yet another month. I donīt really think that giving away all the details of the album, will be cool just yet. Itīs very open to interpretation, and different people will get different images/stories listréning to it, and revealing stuff, might spoil it for some. Hope you understand for now...In time i will brief you on this matter. I promise :-)

I'm guessing that some of what we hear on 11 Dreams is inspired political policy by a certain country in the Western hemisphere. Any comment Kral might make about the lyrics would likely be deliberately misunderstood by fanatics on either side of the arguement leaving Kral and the guys in a no-win situation. If I'm way off on my guess, I hope I'm corrected.
As long as anyone's music kicks my ass and inspires me to headbang and play air-guitar and drums around the house and in the car, I could really care less about the lyrical content. There are those rare discs however that somehow manage to force you to open the CD jacket and read the lyrics. Most lyrics are pretty shallow and simple, but not those on 11 Dreams.

Wow once again thanx for the compliment Fiddler. I know i have promised to write about the lyrics of the album here. But as i said earlier i would rather that people interpret them the way i like them to be interpreted. On a personal level. Different people different interpretations. But rest assured that i will do what i promised sometime later on, when the album is out in the states also. Cause again i donīt wanna spoil their surprise kinda. So maybe sometime in March or so. As for the lyrics beig all political and stuff. Itīs has certain elements or paralells i agree, but it is not meant to be that political really. World Hate Center and 11 Dreams i can understand that you read it as being all about 9/11 and well that tragic incident has left a big scar in us all, and surely it will not be completely left out in our minds and certainly not left out in my lyrical universe. But there is tons of other elements in there also which is more on a dreamy surreal level, and thats the main part of the album. Thats it for now....and i promise more will come later on
